In Chinese culture, “Crouching Tiger” implies a talented individual who does not show off the ability and power. The complete idiom is “Crouching tiger, hidden dragon”, which nowadays has become a respectful compliment to refer to those clever and talented people.
The inspiration for our restaurant’s name and logo came from a trip when we visited the Shaolin Temple to admire the profound culture of Kung Fu art at its origin, the Song Mountain. We learned that the term “Kung Fu” is not only limited to Chinese martial arts. It refers to the training process of strengthening of one’s body, mind, and skills, not necessarily what is being trained. One can possess Kung Fu in any area that he or she has worked hard to develop. The ultimate level of Kung Fu is presented humbly, like a crouching tiger. 
That is the story of Crouching Tiger Restaurant.
With years of experience and enthusiasm in Chinese food, another profound culture developed thousands of years, we are pleased to present our “Kung Fu” 功夫 to all of you to enjoy at this renowned location at downtown Redwood City.
